Abstract

This research studies the relationship between the reproductive capacity of wild boar and different availability of chestnuts in the Apennine environment. Data on chestnut production for the period 2001-2003 was compared to
wild boar reproductive parameters obtained by slaughtering analyses. Results show that chestnut fructification is very important for wild boar reproduction and that the number of foetuses varies sensibly with food offer.
