Transaction and professional costs in the forest management

Abstract

Transaction costs are a major component of the total costs of forestry production process. Their existence is due to the coexistence of public and private interests with which forest management must commensurate with. Transaction cost can be considered as the defense costs to protect the interests of forest owner and the community in the use of forest resources. The author presents the results of a regional scale survey on professional costs that are a specific type of transaction costs external of the processing cycle. The study shows how these costs tend to increase with the complexity of procedures and the ecosystems. In absolute terms their incidence is not relevant, however, especially for the quercus of quercus, which usually have a low value market production, their magnitude is so relevant that could cause the loss of any monetary margin for the forest management.
