Abstract

Forestry sector is a significant potential carbon sink hence, through the Italian Carbon National Registry, it could be included in the carbon credit market. In the expectation of the Italian carbon market development, where forest owners could become one of the protagonists, the authors investigate the experience gained in other Countries. This article describes the experience of the New Zealand who included the forestry sector into the Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) on 1 January 2008. The article
ends highlighting those aspects of the New Zealand experience that could be exported into the expected Italian carbon market.
