Abstract
Since almost a century the presence of Poplar plantations specialized for wood production marks the landscape of large areas of Northen Italy plain and hillside, while the timber represents a fundamental and peculiar raw material for the local plywood industry. The article gives an overview of this important sector, analyzing a significant sample of enterprises involved in Poplar harvesting and describing the development recorded with time concerning the working techniques, the levels of mechanization and the increments on productivity.
