Monterey pine and douglas fir in the arboriculture for wood production on marginal lands to agriculture

Abstract

This paper analyses some Monterey pine and Douglas fir plantations realized in the Cemola farm (province of Salerno) on marginal lands to agriculture. Twenty years after the afforestation, the results confirm the suitability of these lands for forest species cultivation. However, it must be pointed out that such results were obtained due to i) the application of sophisticated cultivation modules, typical of the arboriculture for wood production and ii) the use of selected planting stock, according to the environmental site conditions and the ecological requirements of each species.
