Abstract
The chemical composition of the essential oil, obtained by separate distillation of the needles and branches in two different populations of Picea abies L. Karst. from Dobbiaco (Italy) and from Villach-Klagenfurt (Austria), was analysed and identified by GC and GC/MS. Major components of needles oil were camphene, limonene, á-pinene, isobornyl acetate, borneol L and 13-epimanool, while α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene, δ-3-carene, 1,8 cineol and β-myrcene were contained in high content in the branch oil. Variation in monoterpene composition were detected between the branch oil and the needle oil and the two provenances exhibited statistically significant variation for several terpenes.
