Abstract
The author reports on the expansion of pure and even aged Abies alba Mill. stands in Vallombrosa (Reggello, Italy) since the XIVth century up to the middle of the XXth century. Their present condition is examined. The aim of future management will be to preserve the landscape characterised by pure fir stands on a limited area for historical and cultural reasons, and to help the natura1 evolution towards mixed stands in the other areas.
