Abstract

Regulation (EU) 2024/1991 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 June 2024 on nature restoration marks a decisive change in the European Union’s biodiversity policy and legislation. It is an attempt to address the repeated criticisms of the European Commission and the European Court of Auditors regarding the various instruments previously adopted to curb the widespread loss and deterioration of species and habitats. This article aims to provide an overview of the measure’s various innovative aspects, highlighting elements that align with recent international policy developments on this issue.
