Abstract
The author, after underlining the importance of public urban green spaces from the environmental point of view, examines a recent Italian law in this field. The author comments that, compared to former laws which date from at least forty years ago, the new law does not bring significant innovation but is only more prescriptive. Nevertheless, the new law has the merit of bringing new impulse to the Festival of trees and, even
more important, of drawing attention, with specific new regulations, to the conservation of monumental trees.
