Abstract

Some general concepts are presented concerning the forest biodiversity and the importance of its conservation in the frame of the sustainable management of forest ecosystems. Case studies of biodiversity analysis in forest ecosystems in Southern Italy are also outlined. In particular, both studies on the forest structure and spatial diversity as well as on genetic diversity by molecular methods are presented.
