Abstract
The final decades of the last century were characterized by profound changes which affected all aspects of society, often bringing about significant scientific and technological innovations. In forestry this was translated into a new conception of the forest – as a complex biological system – and into a proposal for an alternative to classic silvicultural methods. This paper describes how systemic silviculture responds to society’s new needs.
