Abstract
In Sardinia the forest area exceeds 1,2 Million hectares, more than half the total area of the region. The forest sector has a strategic importance and a relevant environmental, social, economic and cultural value. For this reason new guidelines and regulations are urgently needed. The paper examines the inspiring principles and the development of the new Forest Law for the Sardinian Region, which is based on sustainable management and forest multifunctionality in order to ensure productive development, forest biodiversity conservation, regeneration potential, ecosystem health and territory protection against significant risks.
