Abstract

Impacts of climate change on natural ecosystems are increasingly evident. In terms of both increasing maximum and minimum temperatures, substantial changes in the distribution and variability of precipitation and finally with a significant increase of extreme events such as the so-called wind storms. Their frequency and intensity is increasing throughout the world but especially in Europe and in Italy with specific heavy damages. A deep thorough analysis of these phenomena is needed to understand their origins and physical characteristics, and in order to improve their prediction. This article describes the windstorm of March the 5th 2015 that hit the Tuscany Region, presenting its characteristics, its evolution and the maximum wind speed values recorded in some weather stations.
