Abstract

Forest management in protected areas nowadays has a
key role as an activity capable of connecting environmental
protection with the needs and expectations of local populations. In this regard, the study of Abies alba coenosis
in the Pollino National Park is very interesting The first step of this work was to analyze the past evolution of these stands by an historical survey. Then within this stand six plots were identified for experimental, educational and informative aims. The results obtained from the analysis
of dendrometric measurements, compared to the ava lable
literature, show the need to intervene with specific silvicultural techniques. In addition, these results highlight the potential value of the study area from different aspects i.e. economic, naturalistic, scientific and educational.
