Prescribed burning: a controversial management tool for land resources

Abstract

Prescribed burning is a very used technique in the forest resource management, but in Italy is not applied. This article introduces the use of prescribed burning in Europe and in the world, the reasons, the environmental effects, the «prescription» (fuel and weather considerations) and the most important firing technique.
