Abstract
In this paper the potentiality of the European grading rules for structural timber to be used for promoting timber market are briefly discussed. Being based on the identification of homogenous timber geographic provenances, the standards allow the determination of both categories and strength classes by means of which it is possible to make the material ready for the European market of construction timber.
