Abstract
This paper discusses the main impacts of forest operations on soil, residual stand, fauna and landscape. Measures to reduce the impact are also indicated. In detail, environmentally sound forest operation requires a silviculture compatible with harvesting, a suitable road network, and a careful choice of harvesting systems. However, trained and motivated technicians and workers are the most important factor for reducing impacts and costs of forest operations.
