Abstract
In Italy coppices cover vast areas (53% of total forest area). The problems related to coppice management are analyzed and different management options are outlined, based on research results and for different environmental and socio-economic contexts. It is pointed out that coppice management cannot be carried out following only one general hypothesis. Coppice valorization must be supported by adequate policy decisions.
