Abstract

The paper describes and quantifies the private forest enterprises and the number of forest workers in Italy. On the basis of previous investigations and data from the Chambers of Commerce, about 6-7,000 private forest enterprises with about 24-28,000 regular workers are at present estimated for Italy. The number of regular workers is apparently decreasing, because they are replaced by seasonal workers, mostly non-EU citizens, that are less specialized in forest operations but more willing to temporary work.
