Abstract

The beech forest of Val Cervara, inside the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio andMolise, is one of the rare stretches of almost untouched forest still existing in thecentral Apennines.A deep knowledge of these ecosystems is required in order to apply selvicolturaland management criteria on a natural base.Yield and structural survey has been carried out, aerial photos about 50 yearshave been analysed and eventual past use traces have been observed with the aim ofdefining forest structural types: old-growth, uneven-aged and even-aged forest, partially corresponding to a different natural degree.
