Abstract

Il presente studio si propone di valutare l’efficacia del telerilevamento nel monitorare l’invasione della cocciniglia tartaruga (Toumeyella parvicornis Cockerell) a carico del pino domestico (Pinus pinea L.) nella città di Roma, utilizzando immagini di PlanetScope, ideali per rilevare focolai di infestazioni in aree urbane e periurbane.

Per condurre la ricerca, è stato creato un dataset di riferimento contenente 238 alberi sani in Toscana e 2023 alberi danneggiati nelle aree verdi di Roma.

Sono state analizzate oltre 30.000 immagini PlanetScope, testando l’efficacia dell’indice RDVI (Renormalized Difference Vegetation Index) nel rilevamento delle infestazioni di pino domestico. I risultati mostrano un calo significativo dell’indice RDVI durante l’estate nelle aree infestate, mentre gli alberi sani sono rimasti stabili. Integrando dati a terra e telerilevati, sono state esaminate diverse soglie di RDVI, individuando la più accurata nella discriminazione tra alberi sani e danneggiati.

La soglia identificata ha fornito un’accuratezza del 99% nel rilevare gli alberi infestati. Tuttavia, si riconosce che il dataset degli alberi sani proveniva da aree forestali naturali, dove è prevista un’attività fotosintetica più elevata rispetto alle aree verdi urbane. Dai risultati ottenuti possiamo affermare che il monitoraggio delle foreste urbane tramite immagini satellitari è fondamentale per gestire le infestazioni di parassiti.
