Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the applicability of the Liocourt model to cork oak (Quercus suber L.) stands in the south-western Iberian Peninsula, and to review the general applicability of the Liocourt method. Seven uneven-aged stands in a densely structured cork oak forest (basal area ? 10 m2/
ha) were selected and analysed. The results indicate that the Liocourt expression suffers from theoretical limitations which make it difficult to obtain through regression analysis. Additionally, the paper concludes that the Liocourt model is inapplicable to cork oak stands in conditions similar to those of
the study.
